Columbia's Top Physical Therapists for Dry Needling

Stretching helps, but stubborn trigger points and muscle tension don't care. Salerno Sports Therapy offers dry needling in Columbia for athletes and active adults who want to break the cycle and get back to training.

That Tight Spot Won't Release No Matter What

Stretching Doesn't Touch It

You roll out, stretch for 20 minutes, and feel okay—until you train again and the same spot locks back up within days.

Rest Doesn't Solve Trigger Points

You take a week off and the tightness fades a little, but it never fully goes away. As soon as you load the muscle, the pain is back.

You're Told to Just Manage It

Doctors hand you a stretching sheet and say it'll improve over time. You're still waiting, and your training is taking the hit.

Jason Mohn

Jay is awesome! He has been instrumental in solving my knee pain and issues while marathon training. He is incredibly knowledgeable and gave me a full strategy to fix my current problems and work to prevent them in the future!

Dylan Dylan

SST was key to my training and prep for my first half marathon. Jay helped me stay injury free as I ramped up the intensity of my runs, and he was willing to help me remotely when I couldn't make in person sessions.

michael salerno

Very professional and highly recommend! I went to see Jay after a week off running due to injury. I had the Chicago marathon approaching in about 2 weeks and really wanted to be healthy and run. Jay worked hard and diligently to get me ready for the marathon — in a short time— and I was able to run the marathon, snag a PR & BQ. Jay continued to work with me post marathon to make sure I had the tools to keep my hips healthy and stronger. I’m happy with my decision to choose Salerno Sports Therapy for my PT needs!

Lindsey Hendren

Jay has done an outstanding job working with me. I came to him with bilateral elbow pain and have left with no more pain! He is extremely thorough with his initial evaluation in order to prescribe you with the best possible care. I would highly recommend Salerno Sports Therapy to anyone with any nagging aches and pains OR if you want to prevent those nagging aches and pains from happening. Give Jay a call!

FAQs

Common questions about dry needling at Salerno Sports Therapy.

Does dry needling hurt?

Most people feel a deep muscle twitch or brief ache when the needle hits an active trigger point. It's not comfortable, but it's short-lived and the relief afterward is usually noticeable right away.

How is dry needling different from acupuncture?

Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine and energy pathways. Dry needling is a physical therapy technique that targets specific muscle trigger points and tissue dysfunction based on anatomy and movement science.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the area, how long you've been dealing with it, and what else is contributing to the tension. Some people get significant relief in 2-3 sessions, but we usually combine needling with a strengthening plan for lasting results.

Can you do dry needling and PT in the same session?

Yes, and that's usually how we prefer to work. We combine dry needling with manual therapy and exercise in a single session so we're addressing the tissue and building the strength to support it at the same time.

Is this covered by insurance?

We're out-of-network by choice so we can work without insurance restrictions. We'll give you a receipt you can submit for possible reimbursement, but we don't bill directly. No rules about what we can and can't do in a session.
