What Makes Us Different

Training-based therapy in a performance space

Your sessions happen in a gym-style environment with real equipment—not a clinical room with treatment tables. Every hour is spent one-on-one with your physical therapist, working through exercises that directly connect to your sport. You'll know the plan, understand the why, and feel the difference in how you move.

Jay and Nathan are truly such amazing people. I love coming to physical therapy to get stronger while also chitchatting the entire time. I always leave feeling awesome and happy. Love this place!

Salerno Sports Therapy delivers tailor made therapy in each session. Every visit is different because each visit I am getting stronger. I have not only improved my physical conditioning but gained a better understanding of how to maintain strength and flexibility in the future.

I’ve never thought going to physical therapy was a way to deal with ongoing issues from having an active lifestyle. Working with Jay over the last 7 months has shown me multiple ways to work through lower back issues in order to keep me doing the things I love doing - hiking and diving. It’s a great feeling to see progress in strength and mobility. Jay is dependable, available and very easy to work with.

Before Salerno, I had been going to PT for years with not much changed; however, as soon as I started with Nathan at Salerno, i saw immediate progress! Everyone there is so knowledgeable and friendly and truly have your best interest! Always a pleasure being in there.

Jay helped me tremendously gain strength and help my shoulder pain feel better. He was helpful with walking us through the process of submitting a super bill to our insurance. His office is clean, new and he has all new equipment! I would see him again for future rehab needs.
Beth Eiser
Dr. Jay helped me strengthen my legs to better support my knee after an injury. He was knowledgeable, resourceful in his repertoire of therapeutic exercises, kind, encouraging, and was able to show me how much progress I had made at the end of the treatment period. I would highly recommend him!

Questions from Forest Acres clients

What you need to know before scheduling your first visit.

Can I start PT without seeing my doctor first?

Yes. South Carolina law allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can schedule a free discovery call and evaluation without a physician referral. If your insurance plan needs a referral for out-of-network reimbursement, we'll help you sort that out after your first session.

What does a typical session look like, and how often do I need to come?

You'll spend a full 60 minutes working one-on-one with your therapist every visit. Most clients begin with one or two sessions per week, then scale back as they improve. We design your frequency around your schedule and your sport, not arbitrary protocols.

Do I have to stop training while I'm working with you?

Usually not. We believe smart training is part of recovery for most injuries. We'll adjust volume, intensity, or exercises as needed, but our goal is to keep you active and progressing toward your goals while you heal.

Why does this cost more than other PT clinics near Forest Acres?

We're out-of-network by choice so we can spend a full hour with you, coach you through movements in real time, and build plans around your life and sport—not insurance rules. You're investing in expertise, attention, and outcomes that actually stick.

What should I wear to my evaluation?

Dress like you're going to the gym. Athletic shorts or leggings and a t-shirt work best. Runners should bring their current training shoes, and lifters should be ready to demonstrate key movements so we can assess your mechanics.
