I met with Jay for low back and glute pain after a muscle sprain. He heard my story and seemed to know exactly what I needed and how to get me there. I am a personal trainer and big fitness person, and he was more knowledgeable than any PT I have met in the past. He breaks everything down so you understand and makes you feel excited to move again. I highly highly recommend Salerno for anything body related, they are the absolute best in Columbia!

Dr. Nathan at Salerno Sports Therapy did an outstanding job creating a personalized program that improved my flexibility, strength, and overall movement for golf. I’ve seen noticeable improvements in my posture, mobility, and consistency, and I couldn’t recommend him and the team more.

A huge thanks to Jay and Nathan. I participated in their golf specific training program and have seen a big improvement on my hip and back strength/mobility. I have been struggling with lower back pain and hip mobility for several years and this program was a perfect fit to help. These guys love golf and helping others enjoy the game to its fullest. I would highly recommend using their golf specific program if you are struggling with pain or looking to increase your strength and mobility.

My 13 year old began working with Dr Nathan after a stress fracture while running cross country. Since coming back, she has PR’ed twice and her body is much happier post race.

I have an amazing experience every time i step into Salerno for my PT. The people are so welcoming and Dr. Nathan does a great job.🏋️

I came to Salerno for a TPI golf assessment. I worked with Nathan and he was fantastic. We went through a lot of mobility/strength exercises and tests specifically for my golf swing movements. I am a single digit handicap golfer and after completion of the assessment Nathan was able to show me that I had a tendency for early extension. He gave me exercises I could use to improve my strength in these areas & I even slowed my swing down at the range the next day and saw positive results. Highly recommend!!!

Nate and Jay are great! My husband and I both go to see them and they have helped tremendously with our mobility, strength, and recovery. You can tell they truly care and are extremely knowledgeable.

So glad I found Salerno Sports Therapy. Nathan has been so helpful on my path to getting back into a more active life.

Despite years of nagging ankle pain I signed up for a marathon with a friend. After starting training I realized I needed help. Dr. Jay looked at my marathon goal and the big picture and got me working in a way that has helped me work past that pain in a big way. He constantly assesses my progress and adjusts to accommodate the short term successes while working towards the ultimate goal of pain free movement.

Jay and Nathan are truly such amazing people. I love coming to physical therapy to get stronger while also chitchatting the entire time. I always leave feeling awesome and happy. Love this place!

I have seen Jay a couple of times - for various problems with my feet, knees, and hamstrings. As a 'woman of a certain age' there are a lot of issues that seemingly appear overnight. Jay explains how a weakness here could lead to pain there over time and has given me great exercises to strengthen and correct my issues. I've been doing some of these for years, which has allowed me to continue to lift heavy and improve in my CrossFit adventures. Highly recommend Salerno Sports Therapy!

After re-occurring hip pain from bowling, I decided to seek out care from Jay and Nathan. After just a couple visits, I was having decreased pain overall and less pain during activity. They gave me some take home exercises although challenging, it made me improve so much faster than if I was just coming to the visits. (DO YOUR HOMEWORK, IT REALLY WORKS) As a Chiropractor I find it hard to trust physicians and I would trust them with any type of injury care going forward, I will continue to recommend SST to all active individuals with nagging injuries!

I've been so impressed with all the staff at Salerno! I have worked with Nathan for my rehab and guidance, and it's been such a pleasure. Of course, he provided specific exercise guidance to alleviate particular pain points I have. He's also taught me how to think about my activity and reasonably address minor aches and pains. I completed my first long run training block under his guidance and have progressed each week!

Working with Dr. Nathan Adelman at Salerno Sports Therapy has been the best decision to help me recover from injuries and learn about preventing them from reoccurring. If you are looking for a truly patient-centered approach to physical therapy, with a PT who actually cares about your recovery and wellbeing, I can't recommend Nathan at Salerno Sports Therapy enough.

Facing some challenges of the hardest experiences in injury as an athlete was so much easier thanks to Jay! He made it possible for me to go on to play collegiate softball after tearing my ACL twice. He not only helped me build strength, but confidence in my athletic ability.

I'm so glad I found Salerno Sports Therapy. After 5 months of traditional PT, my back pain was still giving me problems. After 4 weeks with Dr. Nathan, I'm able to run without back pain for the first time in 6 months. I really appreciate how they listen to my concerns and personalize my care plan to my specific needs and goals. Not only is my pain significantly better, but I'm gaining strength and confidence in my running. Thanks Jay and Nathan!

Before Salerno, I had been going to PT for years with not much changed; however, as soon as I started with Nathan at Salerno, i saw immediate progress! Everyone there is so knowledgeable and friendly and truly have your best interest! Always a pleasure being in there.

Dr. Nathan Adelman did a great job with me getting a long term back problem under control that no one else could quite figure out for long term results. Highest recommendation.

Highly recommend Salerno Sports Therapy! They provide a one on one session to assure you receive the best treatment possible! Their communication is clear and transparent. Nathan is very knowledgeable, professional, and personable. You won’t find a better PT in the midlands!

Dr Jay and his team do a great job of directing you how to address and take care of any issues your body may be experiencing. As a golf instructor and a player, I realized I had slight pain in my lower back and right hip area. Salerno isolated the issue, worked with me on making it stronger and more mobile. Within a few weeks I noticed a noticeable change in the way I felt and how I swung the golf club. I picked up an extra three to four miles an hour in my swing and feel stronger than I did prior to my visit. Highly recommended to untap your true bodies potential.

Dr Nathan has helped me immensely with my neck and shoulder pain. He is kind, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. He is committed to every patient he sees, and it shows in his high level of care. Definitely recommend Nathan, or any therapist at Salerno Sports Therapy!

I came to Salerno sports therapy with 2 separate issues (knee pain and pulled hamstring) and after working with Jay for a few weeks I forgot I even had an injury! Sessions were enjoyable, I highly recommend.

Choosing them was the best decision I’ve made for my golf game. I saw noticeable improvements within just three rounds.”

The top team of sports PT professionals in Columbia. Trust me, I've tried most of them. Couldn't recommend Jay and the team enough.

Salerno Sports Therapy was the best when I was experiencing IT band problems throughout marathon training. Their personalized treatment plan enabled me to run on race day with no pain! Besides the physical therapy, the staff was always so positive and helpful; it was a great way to start my mornings! If I'm ever hurt again, I'm going back to Salerno.

After being diagnosed with cancer and having a bone marrow transplant I started working out which has been difficult on my body. My doctors have suggested surgery for lack of cartilage and patellar maltraction, they also diagnosed me with carpal tunnel. After working with Dr. Nate I’m thrilled to say my personal training (he constantly stays in touch with my trainer) and my overall strength has improved. The pain is significantly better and I’m so thankful that my trainer pushed me to go see Dr. Jay and Dr. Nate. Thank you guys and I look forward to what we’re going to continue to accomplish! Also shout out to Nila for always being on the ball and so helpful!

Awesome place and awesome people. Definitely worth your time to check them out. They'll get you on the track to healthy movement for sure

Jay is the man! Extremely knowledgeable and personable with all of his clients. If you are ever in need of a PT, cannot recommend enough.

I highly recommend this place! They have helped significantly with my running injuries, and I was able to get back on the road super fast!

Can not recommend enough! I worked with another physical therapist for four months. I spent the same amount of money, with little to no progress. Within three visits with Jay, My pain had drastically minimized, strength and range of motion increased, and just like that, I was back to lifting. Nala is also so kind and helpful with scheduling.

This is my first time trying out physical therapy due to a shoulder impingement issue and I am so impressed with the strength I am already gaining with Nathan. After not being able to really work it out for a year - as someone who enjoys lifting heavy - it’s been a struggle! But Nathan's knowledge and approach allows me to get stronger day by day and have the confidence to push myself more than I would have tried and I’m grateful for that! Highly recommend even if you aren’t sure physical therapy is for you - got nothing to lose (except that recurring pain!) Thanks nathan and team!

I have worked with Jay on two different shoulder injuries and I would absolutely recommend Solerno Sports Therapy to everyone. Jay clearly explained everything to me, even better than my ortho doctor, and provided solid reasoning for every movement and training plan he prescribed. He really listened to all of my concerns and always made sure I understood everything he said. As a CrossFit athlete, I was concerned about downtime while I nurse this shoulder injury, but Jay kept me up on my feet (or hands?) so I didn't miss out at the gym. I am recovering well and I always look forward to my next session in Solerno Sports Therapy's new gym!

Been going for about about a month after stopping by for a screening at strictly running and have been working with Nathan ever since. This has been and will be extremely helpful for my running goals

I can’t recommend Jay enough. He’s extremely knowledgeable, thorough and committed to his patients recovery. He’s helped me through multiple injuries and works with me for ongoing maintenance. You won’t find better!!

Jay is the best physical therapist I’ve ever worked with, and I have had severe back issues since early childhood, and he has changed my life . At 67 years old I’m in the best shape I’ve been in in 25 years. I have great balance, flexibility and my back doctor was very impressed how much better I am... He is the best!

Jay is awesome. Great with communication and makes the session fun. Before Jay, I’d been working on an IT band injury for a few years now with little to no improvement. Now I’m finally on the right track and back to running regularly!!

Jay kept me running when I thought I was going to have to quit. I never had to stop and have been able to get back to my mileage way faster than I thought. Jay is professional and super easy to work with. He sets reasonable objectives and helps figure out ways to keep you working at home where you maybe don’t have the same equipment. I am so glad I went to see him!!

I was dealing with ankle/foot pain for over a year before I decided to visit Jay and after my first session, I knew I had made the right choice by going to see him! Not only is he very knowledgeable but he also takes the time to make sure you understand what’s going on with your body and why the things you are doing are working (or not working). He uses all kinds of techniques to help with healing and strength and every session looks different. He’s very encouraging by pointing out progress you’ve made each time. Thanks to Jay, I now feel motivated to work out regularly! 10/10 would recommend!

Very responsive and thorough in answering my questions and giving me an overview of services offered and how they cater to the individual goals. A pleasure to speak with!

Jay is wonderful to work with! He's equal parts knowledgeable, encouraging, and enthusiastic which makes every session a pleasure. I actually look forward to PT now 😄 I went to Jay for runners knee pain and have gotten relief with his targeted exercises and strength training. I go every few weeks for a tune up and am feeling great. Jay is also terrific with communication which makes scheduling a breeze.

After participating in a community fitness challenge hosted by Salerno Sports Therapy, I decided to improve my overall well-being becoming a client. I'm pleased with my results and progress in resolving shoulder and hip concerns.

Get your popcorn ready, this is going to be a long one! After getting hit on a motorcycle in 1993 and almost losing my left leg, the doctors put a rod in the tibia to hold it together and a cast. After a month and the tibia break wouldn't heal the doctor removed the cast, the bottom screws holding the rod in place and gave me a leg brace and had me start walking on my still broken leg. After the tibia and fibula healed as one, I couldn't afford PT so I just went about my life which didn't include much exercise or anything that could possibly injure my leg again. Fast forward to 2006 when I turned 45, had an epiphany after getting winded in minutes wrestling with my handicapped son and started my exercising. It started with kayaking then mountain biking then white-water kayaking, back snow skiing, rock climbing, road biking then distance running when I turned 50, anything outside in Gods Gym. I had on again/off again pain in my ankle during and after a run, whether it was a 5K or a full marathon, when I would carry my kayak and skiing. It wasn't bad enough to make me want to quit though. Now, fast forward to 2024 at 62-1/2, and the constant pain, I was contemplating giving up running but thanks to Jay Salerno I have changed my mind. After meeting Dr. Jay at a shoulder clinic tailored to us white water kayakers I spoke with him about my ankle issues. He felt like he could help. And boy he sure did! Over the past 10 weeks of one-on-one therapy, Jay explaining how the flexibility, strength and brain all play a part and what those parts do. I have a much better understanding of where the pain comes from and how the therapy and the tools, he gave me can reduce if not eliminate the pain. 5 out of the last 10 weeks I have been training for a 1/2 marathon trail race while going to PT with Jay. I have run 24 days of my training plan, and each run the pain has decreased. Now I feel confident that I will be able to continue my Gods Gym activities well into my retirement. I don't know if the pain will ever go away completely but I can't thank Salerno Sports Therapy enough for helping to keep me out in Gods Gym doing the things that I love to do! Thanks Jay SYOTR!

I’ve never thought going to physical therapy was a way to deal with ongoing issues from having an active lifestyle. Working with Jay over the last 7 months has shown me multiple ways to work through lower back issues in order to keep me doing the things I love doing - hiking and diving. It’s a great feeling to see progress in strength and mobility. Jay is dependable, available and very easy to work with.

I have been in pain pretty much all year. Jay was able to quickly identify the issues, set a plan, and now I am no longer in pain every morning. Its a wonderful feeling. The results speak for themselves.

Jay was a huge help in strengthening my hips that improved my ability to walk and stand without pain caused by lumbar degenerative disks. I highly recommend him!

Jay's passion for helping others overcome injuries and accomplishing their goals is infectious. He spends extra time teaching patients so they can gain a better understanding of their body. Give Jay a call today!

Salerno Sports Therapy delivers tailor made therapy in each session. Every visit is different because each visit I am getting stronger. I have not only improved my physical conditioning but gained a better understanding of how to maintain strength and flexibility in the future.

One of the best things about Dr. Salerno is that he not only talks the talk, he walks the walk. His service is matched by his own active lifestyle in the gym, on the water, on the course, and the streets. I know that Dr. Salerno will know exactly how to get me out of whatever rut I get my self into and back in the gym the right way.

An outdoor enthusiast Dr. Jay understands the things that we do in pursuit of our sports and the associated injuries that can occur. This knowledge sets him apart in his approach to treatment and wellness to ensure healing and recover to return to the outdoors.

Dr. Jay and team are truly amazing. I was referred to Dr. Jay by Kirk at Anytime Fitness on Devine. (Kirk is also an amazing personal trainer, by-the-way!) The two worked together to craft a personalized plan to get me back on track. While working with Dr. Jay he never made me feel bad about the issues I was having and always reminded me to celebrate progress, even when the milestones were small. I am better today because of Dr. Jay's expertise (Kirk's too!) and encourage everyone in need of PT to schedule a consultation. Don't wait and do it today!

Jay was thorough in his assessment of my issues. He gave me a personalized plan to work through back and hip tightness . Very personable, knowledgeable and committed to my recovery.

Jay has helped me go from feeling old with pain in my lower leg, to my legs feeling stronger than ever. He provides great attention and responsiveness to what I need. Highly recommend Salerno Sport Therapy to anyone trying to improve themselves.

Salerno Sports therapy does a great job of getting you comfortable in doing what your used to. Coming off a meniscus tear, Jay was able to get me doing all workouts as quickly as possible with meaningful and thoughtful progressions. Highly recommend them for any pain, large or small.

Take my money! I came to Jay about pain in my thumb that had been consistent for almost two months. He did an assessment to rule out anything too serious like a break, and then went through a very thorough process of narrowing down what was actually the problem. After a session of dry needling I'm so happy to say my pain level has gone from Advil twice a day just to get by, to being able to work through the exercises he provided without the pain. I still have a little ways to go, but I'm so pleased with the process, attention to detail, and results.

I went to Salerno sports physical therapy to address two issues: tendonitis in my right elbow and plantar fascitis of my right foot. Jay is very thorough and wants to find the best possible ways to address your issues to get back to full functionality again. I was in a world of pain from both conditions, so I wanted to get relief and enjoy my life again. There are no quick fixes for most injuries, so trust the process of strengthening muscles and correcting underlying problems. Dry needling isn't my favorite choice but it truly helped my healing. Being diligent about your at-home exercises only supports your visits. You have to do the work to get results but you need someone who is qualified professionally to create an effective treatment plan for you. That plantar fascitis is no joke, but it's fixed and I know what to do to keep it from becoming debilitating again and I do it. Listen to your PT. The tendonitis is so improved and manageable now. I am able to enjoy range of motion again and lift and carry with that right arm. Every session is focused on how to continue the healing process and what's working. Jay is 100 percent professional and invested in your wellness.

Really enjoyed working with Jay, can’t thank him enough!

After years of off-and-on neck pain and visits back and forth to PT, once I injured my neck (again), I decided to visit Salerno Sports Therapy. Jay is personable, knowledgeable, and kept a check on my progress throughout my care. Not only did he educate me on where the issue was and provide in-office therapy, he gave me exercises to do on my own to strengthen and repair. Jay uses innovative treatments and cares about the comfort and improvement of his patients. I am grateful for his work and would recommend the practice to anyone needing quick, personalized care!

Jay is the most compassionate and determined person I know. He helped me regain my strength and mobility in just a few sessions after I shattered my whole leg in an accident. He is incredibly knowledgeable and I would recommend him to anyone!

I tore my ACL recently and was out of work due to the injury. Jay got me back on my feet and back to my job in no time. He worked closely with my personal trainer to make sure I accomplished all of my goals! Highly recommend this place

I saw Jay for a few months to address knee pain caused by running and biking. Jay was easy to work with and I saw improvement after just a few sessions. Having one-on-one time and the being able to easily ask questions between appointments was really helpful as well. This is the best PT experience I've had in Columbia!

Dr. Jay helped me strengthen my legs to better support my knee after an injury. He was knowledgeable, resourceful in his repertoire of therapeutic exercises, kind, encouraging, and was able to show me how much progress I had made at the end of the treatment period. I would highly recommend him!

I have had a fantastic experience working through several injuries with Salerno Sports Therapy. Jay is deeply knowledgable, and is very focused on making sure you understand what you are doing and why you are doing it. With his help, I have made great progress and I am back in the gym on a regular basis.

I have had a great experience at Salerno Sports Therapy. I came here seeking help for persistent lower back pain related to my job. From the very first appointment, I experienced personalized and attentive care. Jay is very knowledgeable in his field. He quickly helped me find the root cause of my pain, and we began developing a plan to address my concerns. After just a few weeks, I started noticing significant improvement. My back feels stronger and more flexible than it has in years. I am truly happy with the care I received, and I highly recommend Salerno Sports Therapy!

Jay is a terrific human and Doc! I came to him after noticing some nagging knee pain that wasn't resolving on it's own. Jay did a thorough evaluation, explained the cause and detailed a treatment plan. I gained so much knowledge throughout our sessions and it wasn't long before I felt noticeable improvement. Jay is driven to provide the best care by getting you where you want to be without compromising your lifestyle/workout routine. I'm so happy to not only be pain-free, but to have the tools and knowledge to stay pain-free. I highly recommend Salerno Sports Therapy!

As a Personal Trainer at Anytime fitness, I can’t put into words how much Jay has helped my clients overcome pain and movement obstacles. He has seen at least 5 of my clients and has helped all them tremendously. His wide range of knowledge and evidence based strategies have helped my clients continue to stay strong and stay in the gym! I would recommend anyone dealing with any sort of movement related pain, injury, or even anyone wanting to get stronger or improve their performance to give Jay a visit!

I am so encouraged after seeing Jay at Salerno Sports Therapy. I am a competitive runner and in April 2023 I was diagnosed with bilateral nondisplaced labrum tears. I got PRP, and knew that I would have to make some big changes in order to continue running at a high level. I met Jay at a local race, and immediately felt confident in his ability to treat me as a runner. The amount of time, attention, and intentionality he devotes in each session is next to none, and he provides exercises that immediately translate to sport. 1000/10 recommend for all the runners out there! He'll get you back on the road.

I highly recommend Salerno Sports Therapy as both a golfer and crossfitter. Jay helped me with PT and an exercise program to increase hip rotation and flexibility, which has made a big difference on the course and at the gym. Whether you're recovering from an injury or looking for a way to break through a training plateau, this is the place to start putting in the behind the scenes work that will help you get better.

Had bad hip/sore back injury from my workout. Thankfully Jay Salerno @ Salerno Sports Therapy was able to take me in and fix my hip and back. Had my tightness in the forearm area also treated a few months ago, A good experience overall.. Wonderful PT. A big thank you to Dr. Jay Salerno..

I came in with hip pain from running. I had tried resting it for a month at a time multiple times, but every time I started running again, the pain came right back. When I came in and did an assessment, Jay was able to tell me what was wrong and why I was having pain which was big for me. My own google diagnosis had me worried it was something really bad. He got me well enough to run a half marathon in just a few weeks and gave me the tools/exercises to stay healthy on my own going forward. Highly recommend

In four sessions with Jay, my shoulder pain lessened significantly, and my range of motion increased dramatically. He quickly and decisively determined my issues and built a thoughtful and strategic routine that has been tremendously helpful both to my waking hours and – more importantly – my sleep quality. Moreover, he showed me results that were measurable. He is a dynamic, confidence-inspiring professional, a keen listener, and a friendly presence, and I would highly recommend him.

Jay was fantastic. I was apprehensive about going for therapy but my ability to run and recovery time have dramatically improved. Alot of knowledge and I enjoyed each session in addition, he did not waste my time at all.

Jay is a top professional in the PT world! With his insight and knowledge how the body works, he not only put me back together but was able to put me on a path to enjoy training again! What I loved about each session was he helped me uncover why things hurt a certain way and educated me on what needs to be done to get them to work correctly. If something is bothering you, don’t wait - give Jay a call! Highly Recommend!

Dr. Salerno is a great option for sport injuries!

I really appreciate the help that Jay gave me after I had a muscle problem that was causing me a lot of pain in the lower back. Since this was a chronic injury that I had been dealing with periodically for years, Jay carefully and attentively paid attention to weaknesses in my muscles in the area around the lower back and came up with a very helpful exercise plan for me. His exercise plan has helped me to strengthen all the supporting muscles in the surrounding areas, which will hopefully prevent this problem from recurring when the back is stressed out from activity in the future. So far so good. I highly recommend Jay and his business!

I’m a college baseball and was having pain/tightness in my throwing arm shoulder. After working with Jay for only a few weeks my shoulder is feeling way stronger and healthier than before.

Jay helped me tremendously gain strength and help my shoulder pain feel better. He was helpful with walking us through the process of submitting a super bill to our insurance. His office is clean, new and he has all new equipment! I would see him again for future rehab needs.

Jay has done an outstanding job working with me. I came to him with bilateral elbow pain and have left with no more pain! He is extremely thorough with his initial evaluation in order to prescribe you with the best possible care. I would highly recommend Salerno Sports Therapy to anyone with any nagging aches and pains OR if you want to prevent those nagging aches and pains from happening. Give Jay a call!

Very professional and highly recommend! I went to see Jay after a week off running due to injury. I had the Chicago marathon approaching in about 2 weeks and really wanted to be healthy and run. Jay worked hard and diligently to get me ready for the marathon — in a short time— and I was able to run the marathon, snag a PR & BQ. Jay continued to work with me post marathon to make sure I had the tools to keep my hips healthy and stronger. I’m happy with my decision to choose Salerno Sports Therapy for my PT needs!

SST was key to my training and prep for my first half marathon. Jay helped me stay injury free as I ramped up the intensity of my runs, and he was willing to help me remotely when I couldn't make in person sessions.

Jay is awesome! He has been instrumental in solving my knee pain and issues while marathon training. He is incredibly knowledgeable and gave me a full strategy to fix my current problems and work to prevent them in the future!

Jay and the team at Salerno Sports Therapy have always provided me great service. Whether it's a small nagging injury or a bigger problem, Jay has the knowledge to not only get me feeling better but make sure it doesn't happen again and I can keep doing the things I love to do

For people of all ages and skill levels, preparation and recovery are key! Dr. Salerno has provided me with all the pre and post round exercises/stretches I need to keep myself in "playing" shape. I highly recommend giving SST a call!

FAQs
Common questions about working with Salerno Sports Therapy.
Not necessarily. We work with your training plan whenever it's safe to do so. Many people keep lifting, running, or playing while we address the root cause. If you do need to modify, we'll give you clear guidance on what to do instead so you don't lose fitness or feel stuck.
We're intentionally premium and out-of-network because it allows us to spend a full hour one-on-one with you every visit. You're not paying for volume—you're paying for time, expertise, and a gym-like space built for athletes. Most people need fewer total visits because we address the real problem instead of just managing symptoms.
We operate as an out-of-network provider. While we don't bill insurance directly, we can provide documentation for potential reimbursement through your plan. Contact us to discuss payment options and what to expect.
Your first visit is a full assessment. We'll review your history, test your movement and strength, and may include sport-specific testing like a running gait analysis or TPI golf screen. By the end, you'll have a clear plan and know exactly what we're addressing.
It depends on your situation, goals, and how your body responds. Most people notice progress within a few sessions, and many complete care in 6 to 12 visits. We'll give you an honest timeline after your assessment.
